How to prepare for a job interview?

How to prepare for a job interview?

Research shows that assessing a candidate’s suitability relies heavily on the job interview. An interview allows the employer to meet the candidate personally, ask clarifying questions, and understand whether the candidate’s personality and background fit the profile of a future team member. On the other hand, the job interview is crucial for the candidate to understand if this company is the right place to invest their time. Here, you’ll find recommendations on how to prepare for a job interview. Also, we introduce the golden rules of the interview process.

What questions should you be ready to answer? ⬇️

We have compiled the most common interview questions frequently asked during job interviews. While every interview is unique and largely depends on the position and the company, it’s worthwhile to consider these questions in advance and reflect on them for yourself—this way, you can be sure to present yourself in the best light during the interview.

  1. Why did you decide to apply for this position?
➡️ For this question, think about the job posting requirements and draw parallels with your skills and experiences. Also, describe your motivation and interest in this particular job. If you have previously worked in this field or position, be sure to mention it.
  2. What are your expectations for us?
➡️ Employers want to know if what they offer aligns with what you truly desire. If it’s important to you that the employer is flexible and offers remote work options, mention it. If internal growth opportunities are essential for you, we recommend stating this as well. You can also share your expectations for your future supervisor: if you prefer more guidance, let them know; if you seek more autonomy and decision-making freedom, speak honestly about it.
  3. Tell us about yourself.
➡️ Many interviews start with this question. Although talking about oneself shouldn’t be too difficult, it can sometimes be overwhelming and make you wonder, “What should I say?” Highlight the most important aspects of your work history: your last job and role, biggest achievements, best skills, and describe what you are like as a person. You can also talk about your hobbies and interests outside of work.
  4. What are your strengths and weaknesses?
➡️ When discussing strengths, consider the skills that are relevant to the job offer, but be honest! Revealing weaknesses is trickier—you don’t want to mention traits that put you in a bad light. Try to find something you can turn to your advantage: for instance, if you tend to talk too much, say that despite this, you always manage to lift your colleagues’ spirits. Or if you are too meticulous, explain that this ensures your work is always flawless.
  5. Do you have any questions for us?
➡️ This traditional closing question of most interviews should definitely be used to show your interest in the company and the position. You could ask about the company’s work culture, if they organize team events or outings, etc. You could also inquire about the company’s future plans and ask anything else that wasn’t covered during the interview.

The golden rules of a job interview ⭐️

  • Thoroughly research the company you are applying to. Visit their website and check out their social media profiles—you might find important information there!
  • Dress appropriately! Remember, while you’re not attending a ball, a neat and polite appearance helps present you in the best light.
  • Highlight your strengths but remain honest—don’t attribute skills or experience to yourself that you don’t actually have.
  • Don’t be late! Punctuality is crucial for many, so aim to arrive early rather than late.
  • Be yourself! Employers can sense when someone is pretending to be someone else—your honesty and sincerity can melt even the coldest hearts.
